Great title, huh? Dr. Busby's book is an interesting one. Busby is a traditional allopathic country vet and his wisdom comes from the experience in treating small animals for over 40 years. In How to Afford Veterinary Care, Busby passes along a whole lot of common sense mixed in with his opinions regarding what truly is and isn't needed as far as our animals' care is concerned as it relates to various conditions. It's interesting to note why he doesn't recommend booster shots, why pre-surgical testing is so extensive these days and how most conditions are self limiting.

This is not a book about holistic rearing and definitely is not a book on how to feed a raw diet. In fact, it is a fairly allopathic book overall. However, if we consider how much all of us spend on veterinary care today it is worthwhile to read 'the other side of the story' from an allopathic view and silently wonder to ourselves: do our dogs really need all this 'treatment?' How to Afford Veterinary Care will definitely make you think twice the next time your veterinarian recommends routine annual care.
