Millers Forge DoggyMan Extra Soft Slicker Brush

This is the only slicker brush we use!  Good grief, we can't begin to tell you how many varieties of brushes we've purchased over the years and you know what?  None of them made us better groomers.  Basically because we stink at grooming.  The result?  We need all the help we can get so we're thanking doG for Millers Forge DoggyMan brush.

One of the top Chow handlers and breeders from Australia was out visiting and she was kind enough to give us a lesson in grooming Chows (read: "You are an awful groomer so Please let me show you what to do!).  Her brush of choice?  DoggyMan.  In fact, she gave us her brush.

What makes the DoggyMan brush so different?  Not only is it easy and comfortable to hold, but the steel pins are placed on soft cushion which means that as you brush your dog, the pins in the brush will take hold of the fur while the cushion allows that 'give' to help pull the hair up and away from the body at the same time.  Because of this cushion, your dog is at little risk of you brushing him too hard and thus damaging the fur and skin (well, I suppose if you whacked your dog with the brush that might do it but we are civilised and we love our dogs!).

The technique:

  1. First spray a small section of fur with finishing spray or water.  Dry fur breaks.  Keep it slightly moist.
  2. Next comb a small section of fur (if you have long haired dogs we recommend the Master Grooming Tools finishing comb) and get out all the tangles.  For nasty tangles, we recommend Cowboy Magic.
  3. Last, use the Millers Forge DoggyMan slicker brush.  Place the brush at the base of the fur next to the skin and lift up and away from the dog.
Work section by section and when you are done you will have a dog who is perfectly combed out and gorgeous!

It's silly really.  With all kinds of grooming tools on the market, the trick is really using the tools that are right for your dog.  With long haired dogs, all you need is the DoggyMan brush, a good comb, a little bit of time and some patience.  Trust us when we say that if we can do this, you can too!

Works great for long haired cats too!

And to top it off, if you take good care of your brush it will last you a very long time.  We've had ours for over 2 years now and it still looks as good as new.  Each DoggyMan slicker brush has a flat pinned surface which measures approximately 4" wide x 2" tall.

Happy brushing.
